Black silicon carbide is a combination of silicon and carbon. To create it, high temperatures are required to fuse silicon and carbon together. This process can be achieved through various methods, but one of the most common is via the Acheson process. This involves heating a mixture of carbon black and silica sand in a high-temperature electric resistance furnace, resulting in the formation of silicon carbide.
